Large-scale Paper Pour with Hong Hong

Artist Hong Hong was a guest artist at the Zeiders American Dream Theater's (The Z's) Proteus Festival early October, 2018. The festival was in celebration of the grand opening of The Z's new building in Town Center of Virginia Beach. Festival attendees and Town Center visitors gathered outside the Z to create the giant sheet of paper using recycled tickets, scripts and scores from the Z's first three years of operation.

As a graduate student at the University of Georgia, Hong developed her unconventional papermaking practice over nearly a year of trial and error. Her technique combines two traditional forms of papermaking—Tibetan and Japanese—but her work’s scale and process are contemporary. The process is a performance, a back-and-forth between creation and destruction.
