Public Art Tour Header Web


Are you ready to get outside and DRAW the spectacular features of Virginia Beach? Then make sure to join us for our Public Art Sketch Crawls! All ages and abilities are welcome!

We have limited supplies of FREE sketch books, so arrive early! We will start with a brief talk on the history of the area and then it's off to the drawing board!

Feel free to bring along snacks, water, a small folding chair that you can carry, and whatever supplies you prefer. Please email ngoodale@vbgov.com to RSVP and ask any questions you may have. Meet us at the Rudee Loop Parking Lot for our first-ever Public Art Sketch Crawl! Rudee Loop Parking Lot is located at 104 Atlantic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. Metered parking at the Rudee Loop Parking Lot is $2/hour for a maximum of three hours. The parking lot is in the heart of the Rudee Loop, which includes several murals, sculptures, vibrant placemaking features and is a stone’s throw from the Virginia Beach oceanfront! There are plenty of options to draw! (Let's hope for nice weather!)

Join us for some fresh air at Lake Lawson/Lake Smith Natural Area! We'll sketch "Parallel Migrations," our environmental art installation which uses butterflies to depict global migrations and the struggle for survival in the face of perilous conditions.

We are also excited to have you join us for an end of day stroll by Virginia Beach Public Art! Starting this fall, our #ThirdThursday tours will take you to different public art installations across the City of Virginia Beach! Learn about the history, artist and more as we get out for this fun outdoor art activity. We encourage you to bring water and comfortable walking shoes. Please RSVP in advance by emailing ngoodale@vbgov.com with how many people will be in your party, and which of these FREE events you wish to attend. Tour begins at the "Barreled" and "Broken Current" installation (located at 223 17th Street, Virginia Beach, VA 23451) and continues with a walk through the ViBe Creative District.

This tour will take you to the Pleasure House Point area of Virginia Beach, as we view and discuss the turtle-y awesome environmental art installation called "Terrapin Basin." The tour begins outside of the Brock Environmental Center (3663 Marlin Bay Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23455).

This tour will take you to the most famous part of Virginia Beach- the oceanfront! Take a walk down the boardwalk and see some of the hidden sculptures located just footsteps from the Atlantic Ocean. Tour begins at the "King Neptune" statue (located at 3100 Atlantic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451)
